A woman in her early 60s had been very active in triathlons her whole life. After being diagnosed with breast cancer, she discovered quickly how the treatment was going to impact her lifestyle. She joined the Laurie’s Hope program at the YMCA and began swimming again, which allowed her to meditate, relax, regain her stamina and reduce her anxiety. Triathlon training is not far down the road for her, and she is excited about that possibility again.
While going through chemo, a patient in her mid-60s was regaining her strength and stamina. Her young grandson, for whom she was the primary caregiver, could play with the other kids in the YMCA childcare program while she underwent treatment to regain her health.
